Indian Red Cross Socviety District Branch Amritsar is going to start an old age home for women on grant from Department of Women and Child Development, Chandigarh, Government of Punjab. It will have a capcity of 25 beds in Working Women Hostel, Tehsilpuda.

Indian Red Cross Society, district Branch Amritsar in association with Department of Transport, Punjab is going to open a driving skill development Institute.

This institute will impart 2 days basic training to aspirants using digital technology and will be compulsory for heavy vehicle drivers.

The society plays a very vital role to patch up the family disputes of husband and wife. The disputes of the family are settled amicably. The Chairperson and well experienced members of the society listen the husband and wife. They counsel them and settles their cases. The society has settled so many family disputes and saved them from litigation and disturbance of their children.

The Society organizes various blood donation camps at various places of District Amritsar so that the lives of injured patients be saved and there should not be a short supply in the Government Hospitals in case of any emergency

Sahara Short Stay Home for deserted and destitute women is run by Red Cross Society, District Branch, Amritsar under the supervision of Hospital Welfare Section. This section visits the home from time to time to take care of the inmates.

Red Cross Society has solemnized the marriages of destitute girls which were the inmates of Nari Niketan, Amritsar. All the expenses of marriages were borne by the society through its own funds and donations collected from members and other philanthropist citizens of the city.

The Chairman and a Chairperson of the society along with the staff visits the various places during the nights of peak winter season and gave them blankets to the homeless peoples sleeping on footpaths, Railway Station, open parks and outside the Temple and Gurudwaras and other holy places .

The society imparts the First Aid and Home Nursing training to the students of various Educational Institutions and youth of the District Amritsar. By taking training of First Aid and Home Nursing one can save the lives of the persons injured on road accidents and in any emergency at home or anywhere. This training is compulsory for all driving license holders especially hevay vehicle drivers to provide road assistance to injuerd.

So far more than 20,00 trainees have been trained for more than 30 years.

Now the registration process is online through which 53 trainers have got training.

The Indian Red Cross Society, District Branch, Amritsar is having Working Women Hostel, Amritsar. It has 54 single rooms with an attached kitchen and toilet in each room. This Hostel is providing accommodation with a security guards to the inmates and the students coming from the other districts at very nominal rates. They live in a congenial atmosphere.

The society is running computer center near Bus Stand. In this centre, the computer training is imparted in different batches at nominal rates so that the education of computer may be given to the poor and needy children also.

District Red Cross Society has launched a cradle scheme from 1/1/2008 A Pangoora was installed at the main gate of Red Cross Bhawan along with electric bell. It has been observed that moral values in the society are declining and crime rate is alarming day by day. Due to this menace the subject of illegal / unwanted newly born babies is challenging a new problem in the society. It has been noticed that such babies are often thrown in bushes or in dustbins where such babies are endangered to their life by the stray dogs. This is a great sin and is against all values and norms of the society. Keeping in view this menace, Distt. Red Cross Society, Amritsar has come forward and has launched a Cradle Scheme from 01.01.2008.

In response, 189 children ( 158 Female and 31 Male) till date have been received in Pangoora sofar and after making all formalities / paper work, these children have been shifted to Shishu Grah Trust, Jalandhar and Swami Ganga Nand Bhuri Wale, Foundation Dham, Village-Talwandi Khurd, Ludhiana for their further legal adoption under LAPA

It is pertinent to mention here that prisoners i.e.Fishermen / civilians released by Pakistan authorities through Wagha Border, Attari and they are brought to Red Cross Bhawan for their hospitality. Huge No. of fishermen have been placed at Red Cross Bhawan and then they were handed over to Govt. of Gujrat, Department of Fisheries. The Civilian prisoners have been lodged at Red Cross Bhawan for sending them to their native places

The project of Sanjhi Rasoi was set up on 10/6/2017 at Amritsar with the initiation of District Administration, Indian Red Cross Society, and philanthropists of Amritsar under the dynamic leadership of Worthy Deputy Commissioner cum President, Indian Red Cross Society, to provide hygienic and nutritious food to the needy people at a subsidized rates i.e. Rs.10/=- per packets.

Two locations were identified where most of the labour, industrial worker, rickshaw puller and poor persons /patients assembled daily for their treatment ay Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and Civil Hospital, Amritsar. In addition to this, one outlet at Tehsilpura was also set up.

The Project was inaugurated by Hon’ble S. Navjot Singh Sidhu, Minister for Local Govt. and Tourism Punjab on 10/6/2017 at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar where 500 food packets were sold. At present three outlets as mentioned above are working successfully and sold more than 500 food packets daily.

In addition to the above the Society gives assistance in shape of medicines to the poor, sewing machines to the widows and deserving women ,artificial limbs, hearing aids, wheel chairs/tricycles, crutches to the disabled persons
